Connecting art & nature in the classroom

This Environmental Art Education Toolkit is a result of a 6-week study conducted by artist and educator Megan Kaple. Her research explored connections between art, nature, and environmental advocacy. By interviewing educators at unique teaching sites, she discovered the needs of public school art instructors by identifying their understanding of environmental art, how they currently incorporate nature and advocacy in the classroom, and what limitations they face.

This toolkit works together with a Pinterest page to provide teachers with a curated collection of environmentally-focused art lessons, book recommendations for adults and children, a glimpse at prominent eco-artists, and additional links to programs that offer free resources for educators.

It’s my hope that these resources can work to inspire, prepare, and alleviate some of the time teachers need to infuse environmental art into their curriculum.
